OBJECT OF GAME

The object is to either capture the opponent’s King or to advance one of your Pawns to the opponent’s pinnacle in order to win. The pinnacle is the last surface of each army’s terrain where the King is positioned at the start of the game. Prior to starting the game, players may agree on the total play time such as 30, 40, or 60 minutes as well as an amount of time for each move (i.e. 30 seconds or 40 seconds). Players take turns moving their games pieces. Each player is to move only one piece per turn. If neither player has won at the end of the allotted time, then the captured pieces are counted according to their point value by each player. The player with the more points wins. The value of the game pieces are as follows; PAWN=1, KNIGHT=2, BISHOP=3, ROOK=4.

DIMENSIONAL MOVE

Moving the game piece from one surface to another surface is defined as making a ‘Dimensional move'. The surface that the game piece sits on is called a ‘Blocked surface’. The four surfaces adjacent to a 'Blocked surface' are called ‘Adjacent surfaces’. The next drawing shows a (1 x 'Dimensional move') by a King which is traveling from a 'Blocked surface' to one of the four 'Adjacent surfaces'.

The next drawing shows a (1 x 'Dimensional move') by a Bishop which is traveling from a 'Blocked surface' to an 'Adjacent surface' from various locations. Some 'Adjacent surfaces' are not accessible by other game pieces, because the existing game piece ('Blocked surface') is occupying its immediate surfaces. Among the 'Adjacent surfaces', this particular surface is called an ‘Occupied surface’ (green or yellow surface on the drawing).

To position the game piece on the playing surface, insert the game piece at the ‘unlock’ position (with the indentation pointing towards the corner of the cube). Turn the game piece 45 degrees so that the indentation is aligned perpendicular to the edge of the cube.

PLAYING THE GAME

The player with the yellow game pieces moves first. Taking alternate turns, a player can only move one game piece per turn using the rules for game piece movement. A player may move to an open surface, capture an opponent’s piece on a 'Blocked surface' but may not move to a surface already blocked or occupied by one of the player’s own pieces. The captured pieces play no further roles in the game and are removed from the playing surface.

STARTING POSITION

The playing surfaces have an arrangement of 11 tiers. The Blue terrain and Red terrain have 5 tiers on each side. The Center Tier is located in the middle. Due to the octahedral shape of current playing surface, the first tier can be part of the six tier as illustrated below. Thus, the terms like 'Vertex tier', 'First tier', 'Pinnacle', 'Sixth tier' and 'Center tier' are interchangeable.

The next drawings show the starting positions of the game pieces. Each player is provided with 17 game pieces: a King, four Rooks, four Bishops, four Knights, and four Pawns. The Green game pieces are positioned at the Blue terrain and the Yellow game pieces are positioned at the Red terrain. The King is positioned at the pinnacle, the four Rooks are positioned at tier 3, the four Bishops are positioned at tier 4, the four Knights are positioned at tier 5 and the Pawns are positioned at the Center Tier.
